Women Who Lead is a portrait series created by Charlotte branding photographer Mayeluz of Soulful Portraits, celebrating women entrepreneurs and leaders in our community.
A Portrait Series Celebrating the Women Shaping Our Community
Over the past few years, I’ve had the privilege of photographing many incredible women.
Women building businesses.
Women leading teams.
Women guiding clients through important moments in their lives.
Entrepreneurs, consultants, coaches, founders, and professionals doing meaningful work in our community.
And yet, when these same women step in front of my camera, I often hear the same thing:
“I’m not photogenic.”
“I feel awkward in photos.”
“I don’t really like pictures of myself.”
It always surprises me.
Because these are women who are confidently leading in their fields — making decisions, helping others grow, and building something meaningful.
But when it comes to their own visibility, many hesitate.
That’s one of the reasons I created Women Who Lead.
Why Visibility Matters
In today’s world, visibility is part of leadership.
People connect with people.
When someone visits your website, sees your LinkedIn profile, or discovers your work online, your image becomes part of the story you’re telling about who you are and what you stand for.
And yet, so many capable women hide behind outdated headshots, cropped vacation photos, or no images at all.
Not because they lack confidence in their work — but because they’ve never had an experience that helped them feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera.
That’s where photography can become something powerful.
When a woman sees herself clearly — strong, confident, and aligned with the work she’s doing — something shifts.
She shows up differently.
More Than Just Photos
Women Who Lead is not just a photoshoot.
It’s a portrait series created to celebrate the women who are shaping our city through their leadership, entrepreneurship, and service.
Each participant receives a guided portrait experience designed to capture authentic, confident images that reflect who she is and the work she is doing.
But beyond the portraits, the project is also about recognition.
Each woman featured becomes part of the Women Who Lead Charlotte Leaders Series, highlighting the incredible women making an impact in our community.
Because leadership shows up in many forms.
It’s the woman building a business from the ground up.
The consultant helping companies grow.
The coach guiding others through transformation.
The professional creating change within her organization.
These women may not always call themselves leaders.
But they lead every day.
A Project With Purpose
One of the most meaningful parts of this project is that it also allows us to pay it forward.
For every Women Who Lead session booked, a professional headshot will be gifted to a woman who is just beginning her journey in business and may not yet have the resources for professional photography.
Because when women support one another, our entire community grows stronger.
Nominate a Woman Who Leads
Women Who Lead will feature a limited number of women in Charlotte as part of the Founding Series.
Some participants will join the project directly, while others may be nominated by someone who admires the work they are doing.
If a woman comes to mind — a founder, professional, or leader whose work is making a difference — I would love to meet her.
You can nominate her here:

Final Thoughts
Photography has always been more than pictures or art to me.
It’s a way to connect with people and document the lives and stories of remarkable women doing meaningful work in the world.
Women Who Lead is my way of celebrating those stories.
And I’m honored to begin sharing them.
